Rest Assured

God is at work in you enabling you both to will and work for his good pleasure.

It’s good to know that I’m not striving to do my best on my own.  It’s good to know that God is advocating on my behalf, that he’s on the sidelines cheering me on,  giving me words of encouragement for me to keep pushing, keep fighting, and to keep going.

No Need to Be Afraid

Whom Shall I fear

When God is for you, it doesn’t matter who is against you.

Fear & Love

“There are two basic motivating forces:  fear and love.  When we are afraid, we pull back from life.  When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance.  We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections.  If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create.  Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-heared vision of people who embrace life.” – John Lennon

Thought to Ponder #10

You don’t have to be perfect to be loved.

Independence Day & Free Will

I’m grateful for the freedom to live in a democratic country.

I’m even more grateful to be able to exercise my free will.

The fact that I have the choice to make decisions about myself and my life brings me joy.

God loves us so much that he gives us the freedom to choose…whatever comes before us.

The hardest part is choosing wisely.

I’m reminded though that He’s available to help me when there are tough decisions to be made.

Peace & Bliss

As a Man Thinketh – James Allen

Man is the master of thought, the molder of character, and maker and shaper of condition, environment, and destiny.

Man holds the key to every situation, and contains within himself that transforming and regenerative agency by which he may make himself what he wills.

Only by much searching and mining are gold and diamonds obtained, and man can find every truth connected with his being if he will dig deep into the mine of his soul.

Remind & Repeat

Rick Warren suggests that when the odds are stacked against you that you pray a certain way that is different from the way you normally pray.

He gives us a model based on 2 Chronicles 20.

1. Remind yourself who God is. Before you talk to God about the problem and focus on it, remind yourself that God is bigger than the problem you are facing.

2. Remind yourself of what he has done in the past. Think of the times when God has helped you and the miracles he’s already done in your life.

3. Ask God for help now. How about a repeat performance, Lord? Do it again!

This prayer is built around three questions: Are you not? Did you not? Will you not?

“Are you not God?” Yes, you are in charge, and you’re big enough to handle it.
“Did you not help us in the past?” Yes, you did help us in the past.
“Will you not do it again?” Yes, you will do it again!

That’s the way you need to pray when you’re overwhelmed. No matter what the situation is, remind yourself first who God is, what he’s done, and then ask him to do it again. Once you’ve done that, you’re ready to talk about your problem.

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be critical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy.
